What is your current role?
I currently work in the technical and production department of Mullins Ice Cream. My role has focused on technical work, such as preparation for audits both internal and external. I am also learning different aspects of the day to day running of the factory.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
Instead of full time education, my preference was to learn, whilst gaining practical experience at the same time. An apprenticeship offers the best of both worlds, where I have a full-time job in Mullins and can also study part time at Loughry. My studies and work are linked giving me a full overview of the business. At the end of my apprenticeship I will be trained in different areas of the business, have valuable hands-on experience and essential skills to work in a factory.
What have you learned at Dale Farm so far? Which skills have you developed?
So far, one of the key skills I have developed is around audits. I have learned about the preparation that goes into getting ready for an external audit, such as BRC. As well as the technical aspect of the job, I have gained a real insight into many aspects of production. I am particularly proud of how I have developed my teamwork skills as well as the knowledge I have gained.
