Higher Level Apprentice

My favourite part of the apprenticeship has been the opportunity to meet and work with people from a wide range of industry backgrounds.

How did you get to where you are today?

After completing my A Levels, I joined Dale Farm through the Higher Level Apprenticeship programme in partnership with Loughry College. Growing up on a dairy farm, I was always interested in what happened to our milk after it left the parlour, so the opportunity to work within the dairy industry was a perfect fit for me. I have now completed three years as a Higher Level Apprentice and graduated with a Foundation Degree in Food and Drink Manufacturing. I am looking forward to continuing my development by starting the Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship programme for two years, while further progressing my career within the business.

What was your favourite part of your apprenticeship?

My favourite part of the apprenticeship has been the opportunity to meet and work with people from a wide range of industry backgrounds, including those in my class at Loughry College. No two days are ever the same, which keeps the role interesting and engaging. I particularly enjoy hearing how others have overcome challenges and comparing their experiences to those in the dairy industry.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

I would highly recommend it. It has provided a valuable hands-on learning experience and enabled me to develop far more practical knowledge than studying full-time alone would have offered. The ability to earn while you learn is also a great benefit. Overall, it has been a fantastic opportunity to grow academically, professionally, and personally, with the skills gained and career progression opportunities making the experience extremely rewarding.
